Belgium Flower Carpet

My aunt forwarded me an email with some of the pictures of this celebration, and it was so gorgeous I had to learn more and share (thanks Shari!).  Every two years almost three quarters of a million begonias are laid down in an extravagant carpet design in front of the Grand Palace in Brussels.  It started in the 70s because one man (landscape architect E. Stautemans) realized early on this would be a wonderful way to promote his flower of choice - the begonia.  In what must take serious planning, about hundred gardeners are able to put this floral puzzle together in just under four hours, using no soil.  Amazing.
