While I have always appreciated (and am utterly grateful for) the independence and freedoms we are so lucky to have in this dear nation of ours - I have never been terribly struck with interest in American history. That changed recently however when my husband and I watched HBO's miniseries on John Adams - based on the book by David McCollough. It was fascinating, gripping, and gave me a deep, deep appreciation for the way our country was born - the people that fought and died for it, and especially the people that gave it the foundations we have now. There were extreme, severe differences of opinion then, just as we see now. But we Americans were brought together and fought for our independence even so. It is our very history that gives me hope for the future of our nation. Divided though we stand on so many things, we are united as Americans…and I am proud to be one, and proud to celebrate the birth of this great nation.
Happy Independence Day!
Post Script - I would be remiss if I didn't show gratitude to the men and women of the armed forces - we wouldn't still be who we are without them standing up and fighting on our behalf. Thank you!
