Alas, it was nothing - the anti-climactic explanation came early --> http://8-3-11.info/Water.html. It went viral and was hugely popular, especially in South America, where it made news broadcasts. Crazy.
It was still fun though!

So…this is my current and latest curiosity/obsession/craziness. Of course it could mean nothing, turn out to be a total hoax, a social experiment, a prank, or a joke…..or on the other hand, maybe a protest of some sort….well, who knows. But I love a good mystery, so I spent more time than I care to admit studying the site, downloading the background media content, reading up on the question/answer forum, studying the cryptic, arcane images, and then mostly deciding I couldn't keep doing that, so I'll just wait until August 3, 2011. Mostly, it's fun - regardless of the end result.
But in case you're also curious - 8-3-11.info:
The main forum to ask and read the answers to questions: (responded by 175,000, the obscure name of the individual answering most of the questions): http://www.formspring.me/8X3X11
The preferred Facebook page/discussion: https://www.facebook.com/8311belle
And as of today, the latest reveal, which looks almost exactly the same other than the hairline (via the aforementioned Facebook thread, since I am apparently not clever enough to find this revealed image on the main site)…
It is also important to note that their comment that: "We are not marketing a movie, book, game, magazine, multimedia experience, roller coaster, grocery store, or anything else you could possibly spend your money on. We are not in this for profit of any kind."
This means it's not yet another movie marketing ploy (like Cloverfield), which is what it seems like it could be.
Other random things to note (mostly from the forum):
- All the background mp3s are all from the Conet Project, which are recordings of shortwave number stations - a whole other crazy phenomena that will likely need a separate post all for itself. But in regards to this mystery, it remains to be seen whether they are a red herring or not. Though one of the files is named BrutalityUnnec…which is not what it's called in the Conet Project.
- The girl's name is Belle, which is what she went by when she was young. She is six in the picture, American, and is now 83. She is is more of a symbol. There is an explanation for the strange hairline on her picture, but we don't know what it is yet (but the image is not a composite). Belle is ill, but they say not to worry, she'll be ok, and this is not about helping her get well. (seriously random)
- The bottom of the main page says "Copyfight © 2011" - this is not bad spelling, but instead perhaps about the unstoppable crisis of the contemporary model for intellectual property.
- They say the group is based on freedom.
