Ocean Giants

There have been quite a few stories/pictures lately that have struck me, all centered around the giants of the sea.  The first one that blew me away was this - a diver almost swallowed up by a giant whale shark while it was eating plankton.  They are the largest fish in the sea, and have mouths up to 4.5 feet wide. and if the diver had been swallowed, he would have just been spat out.  But still!  Amazing!  I bet that diver about peed his pants when he turned around.  Stunning creature though.

Then in other news recently, there was an insane story of a 15-foot great white shark that jumped right onto a smallish research boat, thrashing around and ultimately getting stuck there.  The researchers moved to safety, and they were eventually able to get the shark back to the safety of the water, but can you imagine what that would be like?!?!?   A giant great white jumping right onto your boat not feet away from you?  I'm pretty sure I would have…absolutely freaked out.  I'm so glad they saved it though.

Along those lines, I came across a video of another small group of people that came across a humpback whale all tied up in a fishing net and dying.  I ended up watching this whole video, I was hooked.  It is extremely rewarding, and my heart soared when it finally got free!

Last, I'll share an image of a creature that is less of a giant, but absolutely beautiful.  I loved the composition of this image, the dolphin's tale, the light, the water, all of it.

Have a lovely weekend!
